Physical Therapy - Amputations/Replantations
Physical therapy can assist immensely with recovery from both amputations and replantations. Our skilled therapists provide desensitization techniques to decrease hypersensitivity at the top of new skin, which enables “retraining” of the skin surface/sensation for normal use. Range of motion and other manual techniques are applied to regain mobility. Skin/wound/scar care is provided as needed to re-establish the skin’s elasticity. Strengthening the amputation/replantation site is also initiated, to regain functional use.
