Prenatal and postpartum care

Balance and Wellness Center - Prenatal and Postpartum Care

While pregnancy is, no doubt, an exciting time, it can also be the source of back pain, pelvic pain, and urinary incontinence. These symptoms may be common, but they are not normal. In fact, women who experience these problems during pregnancy are at much greater risk of experiencing the same problems postpartum.

Our physical therapists can determine the source of back or pelvic pain and correct misalignments, using manual techniques. Pelvic instability can be minimized through stomach supports and sacroiliac belts. Patients are also taught proper body mechanics that will minimize stress on the spine. Postpartum physical therapy focuses on strengthening the pelvic floor muscles and minimizing pelvic and back pain.
