Juneteenth Celebration - Racine, WI

On Saturday, June 14, 2008, we were pleased to participate in Caron Butler's 500 bike giveaway in celebration of Juneteenth. We had a great time helping fit kids to their bikes properly and handing out the helmets that Caron donated as well!

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond. Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. To learn more about it visite the official Juneteenth site.
