Work Hardening/Conditioning

Work Hardening/Conditioning

Our Work Hardening/Conditioning program is available at all our locations throughout Northeastern Illinois and Southeastern Wisconsin. All activities and evaluations are performed by Industrial Rehab Specialists.

Our program consists of:

An individualized plan for each injured worker we see that is customized based on an initial comprehensive evaluation. Observable and measurable goals are identified based on function and job demands. These goals are agreed upon by both provider and injured worker to achieve the common goal of maximizing the worker’s ability to return to work.

Job simulation tasks include critical work demands, tasks, and environments that the worker will have to return to. The simulations are done in a controlled environment and help progress the injured worker towards the necessary activity, frequency, load, and duration. They are always work related and help each injured worker build confidence while practicing work related positions and motions whether they need to return to clerical work, plumbing, electrical, etc.

Injured worker education is a substantial part of work hardening/conditioning. Every worker we see is instructed to perform activities with proper body mechanics and to work safely to prevent injury. Our Industrial Rehab Specialists and the injured worker will review lifting techniques, posture stretching, and the importance of exercise within the program.  Ultimately, we will instill the importance of applying these lessons on the job.

Treatment sessions are designed to restore an individual’s strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination, and cardiopulmonary functions in order to return to the work at full duty.

Flexible hours are available to accommodate required sessions and hours to return to work safely. We are available early mornings and late evening allowing injured workers participating in modified work duty to achieve their plan of care and mandatory participation time to complete the program successfully.
